July 2024 - Week 1 Roundup

Slender mongoose

Sighted on: 01.July.2024

Lioness protecting a cub from an unknown male

We encountered a Slender mongoose during the morning game drive. It's an exciting time when seasons change because the other Kalahari specialists, like the slender mongoose, become more active with their survival and adaptation skills on full display. During the wet season, they feast on prolific insects; in the dry season, they take on larger prey. Slender mongooses are good climbers, taking birds and snakes in trees. The Slender mongooses' colour changes from region to region, and they are more often than not seen dashing across the roads or disappearing into the thickets, making them difficult to photograph. Lucky for us, this particular individual decided to pose for us.
