Sighted on: 17.Feb.2025

The highlight of the week was the sighting of a slender mongoose. Spotting a slender mongoose in the Kalahari is truly a remarkable experience. With its slender body and reddish-brown fur, it seamlessly blends into the dry, rugged landscape.

Quick and agile, this mongoose is always on the move, darting through bushes or across open ground in search of food. While it primarily feeds on insects, it will also hunt small animals and birds, and occasionally eat fruit. Although generally solitary, it sometimes stays with its family.

When alarmed, it may pause and scan its surroundings before swiftly fleeing. Despite its small size, the slender mongoose is a fearless hunter, capable of taking on even the most dangerous snakes.
